BlockyTalky

What is BlockyTalky

BlockyTalky is a programming environment designed to make it easy for novice programmers to make interactive, networked physical computing devices. Kids as young as ten have used it to rapidly build a wide range of projects, from networked cat feeders to computer music systems.

Connect Your Inventions

Use networking to make powerful systems from simple pieces.

What's it Like?

The BlockyTalky programming language is easy to learn. We designed it to foster computational thinking and problem solving by offering a tight match between the way novice programmers describe the interactive systems that they want to make and how they can express those ideas through code. Our graphical programming language helps students to avoid syntax errors. So dive in, you'll be surprised by what you can accomplish.

What Kinds of Sensors Does BlockyTalky support?

BlockyTalky runs on the Raspberry Pi, and includes support for the GrovePi and BrickPi shields from Dexter Industries. Using the GrovePi shield instead opens up support for a wide range of Seeed Studio Grove sensors, including Temperature and Humidity, Light Brightness, Soil Moisture, Air Quality, Buttons, Knobs, Relays... and more! Using a BrickPi shield enables support for LEGO Mindstorms NXT sensors and motors.

And now, you can even combine the BBC Micro:bit and MIT App Inventor to make mobile apps that communicate with robotics, IoT devices, and wearables using BlockyTalky BLE.

What Can I Make?

With BlockyTalky you can make a wide range of projects spanning from musical controllers to automated pet feeders.
